Nunavut Tips

Canada's Nunavut Territory is one of few destinations on the planet with vast pristine wilderness areas to explore.  Our carefully selected guides are skilled professionals who know how to safely enjoy this great Arctic wilderness.

Nunavut Almanac

Arctic exploration in Nunavut begins in 1576 with Martin Frobisher and the quest for the Northwest Passage. He found what he thought to be gold in a bay that now bears his namesake – Frobisher Bay – also the former name of Nunavut’s capital city Iqaluit. The gold turned out to be fools gold, but the quest for the Northwest Passage continued for the next 300 years and shaped much of the Arctic’s history.

Explore Nunavut

Nunavut is the eastern member in our trio of Canadian Territories, which combined make up our northern world of National Parks, wildlife, nature and stunning scenery stretching east to west – across the top of North America.

There are few places as undiscovered as Nunavut, yet it makes
up 20% of Canada’s total size. Nunavut is all about excitement and high adventure, a rare opportunity to do something different with your life – a chance for the North Pole, to hike across Ellesmere Island or discovering the extraordinary beauty of a floe-edge trip on Baffin Island. It’s all here at your fingertips and we at VisitNunavut.com understand your enthusiasm and aim to bring it alive with a selection of the best adventures!

Having lived and worked in the north for many years, the team at VisitNunavut.com are passionate about exploring Canada North of 60 degrees and through this site hope we aim to make Nunavut happen for you. Adventure means different things to different people and visiting Nunuvat is also about staying at unique lodges like Bathurst Inlet or Arctic Watch – one of the most northerly lodges in the world, or travelling to communities like Pangnirtung and Pond Inlet to discover native culture and art. Alternatively our Icebreaker voyage can take you to the tip of Ellesmere Island at about 85 degrees north or by kayak you can paddle past icebergs or traverse Ellesmere Island on foot. No matter what your age, any visit to Nunavut is an adventure to be proud of. Quite simply this is a true frontier, the like of which there are few left in the world.
